Scripture Reading: John 15:26-27
“But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, He will bear witness about Me. And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.’ (John 15:26-27)
The unique personal attribute of the Third Person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit, is His precession from the Father and the Son. The Father and the Son sent the Holy Spirit to dwell within us. He is called “the Spirit of truth” because He is the source and the revealer of God’s truth to us. He is our Helper who comes alongside of us to strengthen us, to give us wisdom, to illuminate God’s Word to us, to convict us of sin, and to lead us.
Jesus said that the Holy Spirit will bear witness about Him. It is the Holy Spirit who prompts us to remember the teachings of Jesus and who bears witness of Jesus’ love for us and His presence with us. He brings to our minds the beauty and glory of our Savior. He encourages us to fix our eyes on Jesus and to trust Him no matter what.
Because the Holy Spirit is within us and bears witness about Jesus to us, we too can bear witness of Jesus. The Holy Spirit will give us opportunities to share the light of the gospel with others. He will even give us the words to say: “for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what to say” (Luke 12:12). This should give us confidence and boldness to share the love of Jesus with others. God promises to put His words in our mouths: “And I have put My words in your mouth and covered you in the shadow of My hand” (Isaiah 51:16). God will give us the words to say and He will protect us!
Jesus calls us to be His witnesses (Acts 1:8). We are to take the message of the gospel to lost people. We should never be afraid to speak boldly of the salvation that is only possible through Jesus Christ. We have the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, living in us. He will give us the words to say.
O Holy Spirit, Spirit of truth, You bear witness to me about the words and works of my Savior. You are present within me to give me boldness to share the love of Jesus with others. Let me be conscious of Your presence and sensitive to Your leading today. Give me the words to say to others as I seek to proclaim the excellencies of my Savior.
