THE RESTORATION OF ALL THINGS

Scripture Reading:  Acts 3:19-26

“(Jesus), whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets long ago.” (Acts 3:21)

We must always keep before us the fact that God has a great plan to restore all things that have been corrupted by the sin of mankind.  When Jesus Christ comes again, His Kingdom will be fully established on earth, and the earth itself will be recreated into an even better state than it was at the time of creation.  There will be new heavens and a new earth.  All things will be made right and there will be no more sin or the consequences that flow from sin.

Currently Jesus is seated at the right hand of God the Father in heaven.  From there He rules as the sovereign Lord over all.  He is in control of all things and He is directing all human history to its culmination when He returns to earth.

All things that were disrupted and corrupted by the fall of man into sin (Genesis 3) will be made right and perfect.  Paul tells us that the current creation is waiting anxiously for its restoration:  “For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God” (Romans 8:20,21).  Creation will be made perfect in every way.  It will be more beautiful than anything we can imagine.

God’s people will be made perfect with body and soul reunited.  Suffering, pain and death will be gone forever:  “And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.  And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man.  He will dwell with them, and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God.  He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be any mourning nor crying nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away’” (Revelation 21:2-4).

Jesus is ruling from heaven now, but when the time comes, He will come again to earth and lead us to the springs of living water (Revelation 7:16,17).

Lord Jesus, come quickly!  I long for the day when I will see You face to face in all Your glory and beauty.  I anxiously await the restoration of all things.  Come, Lord Jesus!
