Scripture Reading:  Ephesians 1:1-14

“Even as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him.  In love He predestined us for adoption through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will, to the praise of HIs glorious grace, with which He has blessed us in the Beloved.” (Ephesians 1:4-6)

God tells us that we are precious and honored in HIs sight:  “Because you are precious in My eyes and honored, and I love you…” (Isaiah 43:4).  Sometimes I find it hard to believe that I am precious to God and honored by Him; but these things are true.  God chose those of us who are believers to become the special objects of His love.  This is why we are precious and honored.  It is not because of anything in us or anything that we have done.  It is because God chose us before the foundation of the world to be His beloved children.

We are chosen in Christ, which means that He is the Representative and Surety of all, who in time, will be gathered into God’s family.  Christ in us makes it possible for us to be God’s holy and blameless people.  We become the special objects of God’s love.  Believe it or not, we become the apple of God’s eye:  “…for He who touches you touches the apple of My eye (Zechariah 2:8).  And God has a divine purpose for our lives — namely, that we would be made holy and blameless before Him so that we can spend eternity in His presence.

The basis of our being chosen is the infinite love of God:  “In love He predestined us for adoption through Jesus Christ.”  We have been predestined to become members of God’s family.  It is the work of Christ that makes our adoption possible.  The Father chose us and predestined us to be His beloved children.  The Son redeems us and makes us holy and blameless in God’s eyes.  And the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of adoption who makes us sons and daughters of God.

As a result of our adoption, we have a new family relationship.  We are loved, protected, and provided for by our Heavenly Father.  We have all the rights and privileges of the children of God.  We are therefore able to cry, “Abba, Father” (Romans 8:15).  Never forget who you are:  precious in God’s sight, honored because He chose you, and loved beyond all measure.

Lord God, I know my unworthiness to be called Your child.  I do not know why You chose me, but I am eternally grateful that You did.  I know that You love me and have chosen me to be one of Your precious children.  I realize that all of this is possible through the work of Your Beloved Son, Jesus Christ.
