THE IMMEASURABLE GREATNESS OF GOD’S POWER

Scripture Reading:  Ephesians 1:15-20

“And what is the immeasurable greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His great might that He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.”  (Ephesians 1:19,20)

These verses are a continuation of Paul’s prayer for believers.  He was praying that God would give all who believe in Christ a spirit of wisdom and of revelation (v. 17).  Specifically he prayed that the eyes of their hearts would be enlightened to see and grasp all the spiritual blessings they have in Christ.  While we cannot fully comprehend them, Paul wants us to realize what we have — “the hope to which God called us and the riches of His glorious inheritance” (v. 18).

Now Paul prays that we might grasp some understanding of the “immeasurable greatness of His power toward us who believe.”  The very power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead is available to us!  It is God who grants us strength to deal with the challenges, difficulties, sufferings and pain we may face.

We must first admit that we are weak.  Until we humble ourselves and admit our need, we cannot grasp the immeasurable greatness of God’s power.  Remember what God said to Paul:  “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness” (II Corinthians 12:9).  When we recognize our weaknesses and inabilities and turn to God, His power begins to work in us.  We then hear Him say to us, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).

When overwhelming difficulties come our way, remember the immeasurable greatness of God’s power, the very power that raised Christ Jesus from the dead.  His power is perfected in our weakness.  We can do all things through Him who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13).

Lord God, all powerful Creator and Sustainer of life, I bow before you in praise.  Your power exceeds anything that we can even begin to comprehend.  I thank You that I do not have to be afraid when I face difficulties, for I know that You will strengthen me and uphold me with Your righteous right hand.
