Scripture Reading:  Ephesians 2:4-10

“So that in the coming ages He might show the immeasurable riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”  (Ephesians 2:7)

Paul tells us what God has done for us in Christ.  He made us alive together with Him and raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places (vs. 4-6).  Now we are told why He did these things for us — He does it to show forth His glory!  God is going to manifest His glory.  He is going to give a great demonstration of it and we are part of that demonstration.

All through the ages, the devil has tried to ruin God’s creation and harm God’s purposes to have a redeemed people for His own.  He is trying by every means possible to detract from God’s glory.  The salvation of God’s people, however, vindicates God’s glory.  God has a plan of salvation in order that in the ages to come, He might display the exceeding riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ.

This glory will be manifested in HIs Church.  All this display of God comes through the Church, the redeemed people of God.  God is vindicating Himself and His character through you and me!  He is going to put us on display.  The best picture of this in the Bible is found in Revelation 7:  “After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and people and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne and to the Lamb!’  And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God” (Revelation 7:9-11).

God is going to show the immeasurable riches of His grace when the new heavens and new earth are recreated.  Then He will present His Church in all of her glory — “without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish” (Ephesians 5:17).  We, His people, are the Bride of Christ.  He will display us before all creation in order to show “the immeasurable riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”

Lord God, thank You for the immeasurable riches of Your grace that You have shown me.  Thank You for the work You are doing in me to prepare me for Your glory.  I long for the day when I see it and am in that vast host of glorified saints who will worship and serve You throughout eternity.
