Scripture Reading:  Romans 8:12-17

“For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!'” (Romans 8:15)

These are incredible words!  Because we have been adopted into God’s family and He is now our Father, we can cry out “Abba! Father!”  We have a heavenly Father who loves us, protects us, and provides for us.  In fact, let’s look at our Father’s relationship with us.

First, God loves His children — “See how great a love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God, and such we are” (I John 3:1).  There is nothing that can separate us from our Father’s love (Romans 8:38,39).  He loves us with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3).

Second, God takes a special interest in His children.  He cares about everything they do — “You know when I sit down and when I rise up, You discern my thought from afar.  You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways” (Psalm 139:2,3).  Yes, our heavenly Father is interested in everything we do.

Third, God has special plans for His children — “For you know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11).  His ultimate plan is to bring us to glory so that we will spend eternity with Him.  But while we are still on this earth, He also has plans for us.  And we can be certain that He will do what is best for us — “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).

Tomorrow we will continue looking at the blessings we experience from our heavenly Father.

Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for all you do for me.  I know that You love me with an everlasting love, a love that will never fail.  I know that you take a special interest in all that I do.  And I know that You have special plans for my life — now and for eternity.  Thank You that You chose to adopt me into Your family.
