Scripture Reading: Romans 8:26,27
“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches the hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.” (Romans 8:26,27)
Surely we recognize how weak we are. How often is our weakness displayed when we face temptation and troubles? But God does not leave us in our weakness. He intervenes in the person of the Holy Spirit.
God sent His Spirit to “help us in our weakness.” The Greek word translated “help” carries the idea of one person giving a helping hand to another by taking hold of the load he is carrying. The Holy Spirit is our “Helper.” We do not have to carry the burden alone. We have a Helper who comes along side of us and who grabs hold of our burdens.
When we face times of physical weakness or intense temptation and spiritual warfare, we have a Helper. When we experience doubt, despair and discouragement, we have a Helper. When we face trials and suffering, we are not alone; we have a Helper. Yes, the Spirit is interceding for us. He dwells within us to strengthen us and to lead us.
The Holy Spirit is always with us. He indwells us and never leaves us. The very same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead lives in us. He knows our weaknesses and comes to our aid.
Spirit of the living God, You know my weakness. You come to my aid and strengthen me during times of difficulties. You lead me when I don’t know what to do. You comfort me in my troubles. I know that I am never alone.
