Scripture Reading: Romans 12:1,2
“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” (Romans 12:1)
When we grasp the extent of the mercies of God which have been granted to us, we must respond to God with a life of total surrender. Consider the mercies of God upon your life — His rich compassion, the sacrifice of His Son for you, the fact that He does not give us His harsh judgment that we rightly deserve. These are the mercies of God that have been poured out upon us.
Such love and mercy demands a willing sacrifice on our part. Yes, we are to present our bodies as living sacrifices to God. This means a total commitment of our entire beings. It involves a complete surrender of our wills to Him who loves us. It means voluntarily giving up our desires, plans and dreams for His sake.
Notice that we are to offer our bodies as LIVING sacrifices. This involves a constant devotion, a continual giving of ourselves to Him. It means submitting ourselves to Jesus’ words — “If anyone wants to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me” (Luke 9:20).
This is our spiritual service of worship. We worship our Lord and King when we dedicate our entire lives to His service. It is a commitment that leads to action as we bow the knee to the One who gave His all for us.
Lord God, I present myself to You as a living sacrifice. I desire Your will above mine. When I consider the mercies that You have poured out on me, how could I not desire to give myself to You in complete surrender?
