THE LORDSHIP OF JESUS CHRIST

Scripture Reading: Romans 14:1-9

“If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that He might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.” (Romans 14:8,9)

There is no such thing as accepting Jesus Christ as one’s Savior and not also accepting Him as Lord. Jesus Christ is Lord of all, whether we acknowledge it or not. He has been given all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18). He is the King of kings and Lord of lords (Revelation 19:16). The day is coming when every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord — “So that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:10,11).

So you can see why Paul wrote these words — “If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.” Jesus Christ made us and bought us — “For to this end Christ died and lived again, that He might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.”

Because Jesus Christ is Lord or all, we live our lives for Him. We belong to Him and thus all we do must be for Him and for His glory. Our work must be for Him — “Whatever you do work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men” (Colossians 3:24). The most mundane things we do, must be done for Him and for His glory — “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (I Corinthians 10:31).

The Lordship of Christ gives me great comfort. He is sovereign and in control of all things. All things have been made through Him and He holds all things together — “For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities — all things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:16,17). Therefore remember, “If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord!”

Lord Jesus Christ, You are the Ruler and Sustainer of all things. You are the Lord of all. I bow before You as my Savior and my Lord. Today, I desire to live for You to the best of my ability.
