Scripture Reading: Romans 15:1-7
“May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 15:5,6)
I love the title Paul gives God in this passage — “The God of endurance and encouragement.” God is the God of endurance. He never gives up on us. He is our God throughout all eternity. He endures with us no matter what. And He is the God of encouragement. He encourages us not to give up. He encourages us when we are discouraged. He comes alongside of us to motivate us and to enable us to keep the faith. He encourages us when we are weak and He encourages us during times of doubt.
The good news is that the God of endurance and encouragement lives in us! We have His power and presence available to us. This is especially true in our relationships with others. Because God endures with us and encourages us, we can do the same for other people. He enables us “to live in harmony with one another.” Yes, we can draw off His power when we need endurance in our relationships. And we can become encouragers of others because of His encouragement to us
Living in harmony with one another is important to God. God is glorified by the unity of His people. Keep this in mind when you get put out and discouraged by others. The God of endurance and encouragement will give you help as you seek to live in harmony with others.
God of endurance and encouragement, You enable me to endure in the faith even during times of difficulty and doubt. You come alongside me to encourage me and to help me in times of weakness and discouragement. Thank You for Your presence within me. Thank You that You enable me to endure in difficult relationships and actually give me the ability to encourage others with the encouragement You have given me.
