Scripture Reading: Philippians 3:17-20
“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like His glorious body, by the power that enables Him even to subject all things to Himself.” (Philippians 3:20,21)
Jesus Christ is coming again to this earth. It will be a glorious and triumphant return — “Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of Him. Even so, Amen” (Revelation 1:7). We do not know when He will appear again — “Therefore, you must also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matthew 24:44). Thus, like Paul, we eagerly await the return of our Savior.
When Jesus comes again, we will experience the final state of our salvation — glorification. Christ will transform our earthly bodies into resurrected bodies. Our “lowly bodies” are filled with weakness, suffering sickness and death. But Jesus will refashion our bodies in conformity with the body of His glory. Our bodies will have a new outward appearance which reflects the new and lasting inner form we will have. Our bodies will be like His body after the resurrection.
Jesus will bring about this transformation but he exertion of His power. His power is so great — great enough to subject all things to Himself. The power that raised Jesus from the dead will be the same power that raises us from the dead and that will transform our earthly bodies into glorified resurrected bodies.
I long for the day when Jesus returns. We will behold His beauty and glory. We will be set free from the suffering, pain and difficulties that we experience in this fallen world — “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall their be mourning nor crying nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:3,4).
Lord Jesus, I eagerly await Your appearance on earth. I long for the day when You will return in glory and set things straight once and for all. I look forward to my resurrected body that will never experience pain, suffering and death. Most of all, I long to spend eternity in Your glorious presence.
