Scripture Reading: Colossians 1:9-14
“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and trasnferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:13,14)
Christianity is about a God who comes to rescue His people from their sin and misery. Every other religion in the world is about man’s feeble efforts to save himself. But Christianity is about a God who takes action and comes to deliver His people, a God who actually saves those whom He has chosen.
Satan has blinded the minds of unbelievers — “And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ in the image of God” (II Corinthians 4:3,4). Satan controls the domain of darkness in which unbelievers live. They are trapped in his domain and are slaves to sin.
But God comes to our rescue. He delivers us from the domain of darkness. He removes the veil, opens our eyes to the gospel and saves us from the darkness of sin.
God delivers us from the domain of darkness and transfers us to the kingdom of His beloved Son. He transplanted us from one kingdom into another kingdom. The emphasis is on the fact that it is God who delivers and it is God who transfers. God alone does the saving! He rescues His people. He sets them free and brings new life to them.
The basis for our deliverance is found in the work of the Son of God. Jesus redeemed us by purchasing us with His own blood (I Peter 1:18,19). As a result of our redemption, we have forgiveness from all our sins. This is the good news of the gospel.
Lord God, thank You for coming to my rescue. Thank You for delivering me from the domain of darkness and transferring me into the kingdom of Your beloved Son. And thank You, Jesus, for redeeming me with Your precious blood in order that I could be forgiven of all my sins.
