Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:1-4

“Set your mind on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” (Colossians 3:2,3)

What we set our minds on determines greatly our perspective on life. We are clearly told that we are to set our minds on things that are above (eternal perspective) and not on things that are on earth (temporary perspective). Read these verses that tell us about developing a heavenly mindset:

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2)

“We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” (II Corinthians 10:5)

“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.” (Philippians 4:8)

These verses tell us that we must have renewed minds, that we must take every thought captive and evaluate in in light of Christ, and that we are to think on things that are true, honorable, right , pure, lovely, etc. All these descriptions are descriptions of Christ. We are to keep Christ in the forefronts of our minds. We are to seek to have the mind of Christ.

In order to do this, we must meditate upon the Scriptures. We must reflect upon the beauty and glory of our Savior. As we do we are to seek the things above and to set our minds on the things above where Christ is. And where is Christ? He is seated at the right hand of God — the place of supreme honor, the place of authority and rule. When we realize this, we can have incredible peace and comfort, for our Savior reigns over all things and He loves us with an eternal, sacrificial and unconditional love.

Lord Jesus, as I set my mind on You, I can begin to see things in a different light. I have nothing to fear for You are seated at the right hand of God. I have peace and joy because I know that I am secure in Your hands. And as I seek to have Your mind, my desires change. Today let me set my mind on things above so that I can have an eternal perspective of life. Let me take every thought captive to the obedience of Your will.
