Scripture Reading: I Samuel 3:19-21

“And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him and let none of His words fall to the ground.” (I Samuel 3:19)

Once God effectually called Samuel, Samuel began his spiritual growth. He came to know the Lord in a personal way. The key phrase in the verse is — “and the Lord was with Him.” God was preparing Samuel to be one of His prophets — “And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established as a prophet of the Lord” (v. 20).

From this point on, the Lord regularly revealed Himself to Samuel — “And the Lord appeared again at Shiloh, for the Lord revealed Himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of the Lord” (v. 21). Samuel learned how to listen to the Lord and he faithfully received instructions from Him. Samuel continued to grow in his faith and became one of God’s greatest servants.

Once we have been called and justified, we began the process in which we grow in our faith and in our walk with God. We must always remember that just as the Lord was with Samuel, so He is with us. He will never leave nor forsake us. We are never alone for He is always with us. God will keep us and He will lead us all the days of our lives.

God reveals Himself to us by His Word. We have the Bible, the written Word of God. We must learn to listen to God as He reveals Himself and His will for our lives through His Word and Spirit. We must “let none of His words fall to the ground” (v. 19b).

God’s desire is for us to be more and more conformed to the image of His Son. It is God’s will for us to grow into spiritual maturity — “until we all attain to the unity of our faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:13).

Lord Jesus, grant me grace to grow in my faith. Enable me to listen to Your Word and Spirit. Let me be faithful in my Bible reading and meditation. Let me hear You speak to me through Your Word and give me the power to obey You. I pray that I will grow to be more and more conformed into Your image, Lord Jesus.
