Scripture Reading: I Thessalonians 1:2-7

“For we know, brothers loved of God, that He has chosen you.” (I Thessalonians 1:4)

In this passage we see the true identity of those who are in Christ — Beloved and Chosen by God. A Christian is first of all loved by God. The Father has a great love for us — “See how great a love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the children of God, and such we are” (I John 3:1). The Father has shown us how much He loves us — “But God demonstrates His own love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). God’s love for us is so great and powerful that nothing can separate us from it — “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:38,39).

We are loved by God and we have been chosen by God. He chose us before He created the world — “Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world that we should be holy and blameless before Him” (Ephesians 1:4). He chose us to be His own possession — “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (I Peter 2:9).

Whenever you get down on yourself, remember your identity in Christ — beloved and chosen by God. He loved you so much that He sent His own Son to redeem you so that you could belong to God’s family. Beloved and chosen, nothing can be any better!

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me. I am so unworthy of Your love, but I know by grace that You first loved me. Thank You for choosing me to be One of Your children. Thank You for adopting me into Your family. I know all this is possible only through Your Son Jesus Christ.
