Scripture Reading: I Thessalonians 2:3-7

“But just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts.” (I Thessalonians 2:4)

We have been given a great privilege and a huge responsibility — “But just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel…” God has given His approval to us. We are loved and accepted by Him. He approves us! What more could we want? The Creator and Sustainer of the entire universe has put His stamp of approval on us.

With this approval comes a divinely given stewardship — we have been entrusted with the gospel. God’s power for salvation (Romans 1:16) has been entrusted to us. We are responsible to use and apply the gospel to every aspect of our lives and we are to be sure that we share the gospel with others who do not know it — “so we speak.”

As stewards of the gospel, we are to guard it carefully from error. We are to keep its central message pure and authentic. We are to be bold in declaring the gospel to others — “not to please men, but to please God who tests our hearts.” The gospel is so valuable to God that He tests our hearts, the hearts of those to whom He has entrusted the gospel. Are we being faithful to the gospel? Are we applying the gospel in our everyday lives? Are we walking in line with the truth of the gospel (Galatians 2:14)? Are we sharing the gospel with others?

We must never forget that we have been approved by God. Nothing can take that approval away from us. Our approval is sealed by the Holy Spirit. But we must remember that since we are approved by God, we have been entrusted with glorious gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is God’s power of salvation to those who believe. It is God’s treasure that has been entrusted to us. Therefore, we must be good stewards of it, for God tests our hearts.

Heavenly Father, You have chosen me to be Your own possession. You have put Your approval on me, not because of anything I have done, but because of Your grace in Your Son Jesus. And You have entrusted the gospel to me. Give me the power and wisdom to be a good steward of this treasure from You.
