Scripture Reading: II Thessalonians 1:5-10
“When He comes on that day to be glorified in His saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed.” (II Thessalonians 1:10)
When Jesus Christ returns, He will be glorified in His saints. We will reflect His glory and every vestige of sin will be removed forever. We will be His mirror image and walk in the light of His countenance. Jesus will rejoice and the angels will rejoice. He suffered so that He could rejoice when the saints are glorified — “Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2). We are the joy set before Him and He will rejoice when we are glorified with Him.
We will marvel at Jesus when we see His glory. We will see Him face to face, and we will be awestruck, marveled at His beauty and glory. Paul reminds us of the incredible, unimaginable glory of Jesus when he wrote — “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing to the glory that will be revealed to us” (Romans 1:18). Whatever suffering we have to endure will pale to nothing compared to the glory that we will see when Jesus appears.
Glorification is the future tense of salvation. It takes place when Jesus returns. Our bodies will be resurrected and united with our eternal souls. The new heavens and new earth will be created and we will live forever with the Lord.
“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:1-4).
Lord Jesus, what a glorious day it will be when You return to earth. We will behold Your glory and beauty and we will be glorified with You. I pray that I will live with that end in mind.
