ETERNAL COMFORT

Scripture Reading: II Thessalonians 2:16,17

“Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.” (II Thessalonians 2:16,17)

Paul has been dealing with eschatology, the events surrounding the end of times and the second coming of Christ. Some of these events are frightening and troubling. There will be a time of great tribulation when many nominal Christians will fall away. The times will be marked by lawlessness and deception. However, we know that Jesus will keep us to the end. No one can snatch us out of His hand.

Paul gives great encouragement to us in this passage — “Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.”

God alone can give us eternal comfort. The comfort is that we know He is with us and for us. He will keep us in His care and no one can take away our salvation. We are destined for glory and no one and nothing can stop us from getting there. No matter what we face, Jesus Himself is with us in it. He defends and protects us. Both the Father and the Son guarantee that we will experience the eternal comfort that they alone can provide. The Father’s love for us is beyond comprehension and nothing can separate us from it. Jesus is with us and He will ensure our eternal destiny. We will experience glory with Him one day.

God Himself has promised to give us eternal comfort and good hope through grace. We don’t deserve these things, but He willingly gives them to us. He is the one who comforts our hearts and establishes them in every good work and word. He is the one who gives us hope that will never disappoint.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love for me. Thank You for comforting me with Your eternal comfort. I have felt Your loving comfort during times of pain and difficulty. Lord Jesus, I know I am in the palm of Your hand. I know that You uphold me and protect me. Thank You for bringing comfort to my heart and for giving me the eternal hope of the gospel.
