Scripture Reading: John 17:20-26

“I made known to them Your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which You have loved Me may be in them, and I in them.” (John 17:26)

This week we have been focusing on words of comfort from our Savior. Jesus is our good shepherd who laid down His life for us. Jesus brings rivers of refreshment to us when we drink from the rivers of His delight. Jesus’ joy fills us when we come into His presence and delight in Him. Jesus gives us His peace no matter what we are facing. Today we come to His prayer for us. We call it the High Priestly Prayer, for He intercedes for us with His Father. The entire 17th chapter of John is the prayer He prayed on the very night He was betrayed.

Jesus prays that we will experience the same love the Father shares with Him. It is the embracing and supportive love of the Father that will sustain us on our journey of life. The Father loves us just as He loves His own dear Son. Jesus wants us to experience the love that He receives from His Father.

The love the Father has for His Son is the same love Jesus has for us. It is impossible for us to grasp the extent of Christ’s love — ” that (we) may have strength to comprehend with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and debt, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:18). Christ’s love for us in incomprehensible in that we cannot grasp the full extent of it.

Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ — “What shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, ‘For your sake we are being killed all day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.’ No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:35-39). We are loved beyond anything we could ever imagine and nothing can take that love away from us!

Lord Jesus, it truly is amazing to think that You love me so much. You love me in spite of my failures and sins. Your love for me is sacrificial, unconditional and unending. Nothing can separate me from Your love. Thank You for loving me and for saving me. I cannot grasp the extent of the love You have for me; but I am so grateful that You love me the same way Your Father loves You.
