Scripture Reading: Romans 8:31-39
“He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32)
In eternity past God determined to send His Son to die for us — “This Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. God raised Him up, loosing the pains of death, because it was not possible for Him to be held by it” (Acts 2:23,24). Christ’s death on the cross was not accidental; it was God’s predetermined plan for the salvation of His people.
God did not spare His own Son. He did not withhold HIm. He did not hold back anything that was necessary for our salvation. God gave up His own Son for us — “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (II Corinthians 5:21). Do you see it? Jesus Christ was delivered up by God the Father to bear the full penalty of God’s holy law pronounced upon sin. Nothing was withheld. Jesus paid it all! “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us — for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree'” (Galatians 3:13).
If God did not spare His own Son, surely He will freely give us all things — “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28). God wants His best for us. He will freely give us all things that are for our good and for His glory. He will not hold them back. He will spare nothing to bring us to glory.
Heavenly Father, thank You for not sparing Your own Son. If You had spared Him, I could not have eternal life; I would still be condemned because of my sins. But You did not withhold Your only Son. You so loved me that You gave Jesus up for me. Because You did this, I know that You will freely give me all things that are for my good and are for Your glory.
