Scripture Reading: Romans 8:31-39
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?…No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” (Romans 8:35,37)
We will face times of difficulty on this earth. Some of these times may be severe and even overwhelming — tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, or sword. The question is — Can any of these things separate us from Christ and His love? The resounding answer is — “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”
This description, “more than conquerors,” does not simply mean that we will be able to stand up to trials. It means that in the end we will overcome them completely. God enables us to be more than conquerors!
Peter wrote these words — “And after you have suffered for a little, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen, and establish you” (I Peter 5:10). God Himself will do these things for us. He will make us more than conquerors.
How is this possible? It is the love of God in Christ Jesus that makes it possible — “through Him who loved us.” Circumstances here on earth will not get better. But, we know that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus — “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (vs. 38,39).
Jesus Christ is victorious. He has already conquered death (I Corinthians 15:55-57). He is the Lord of life (Revelation 1:18). He has already disarmed angels and principalities (Colossians 2:15). He is the Ruler over all things present (Matthew 28:18). He is the Lord of the future (Revelation 1:18). He is seated at the highest seat in all the universe (Ephesians 1:20-22). He has descended into the lowest part of the earth (Ephesians 4:8-10). He is greater and more powerful than any created thing (Ephesians 3:20).
Remember Jesus’ words — “In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33b). Jesus is victorious and He has made us more than conquerors. We have nothing to fear, for nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.
Lord Jesus, You are all powerful and all wise. You are the great Conqueror, who rules over all Your creation. When I face times of difficulty, I know that You will give me the victory. You will enable me to overcome all the trials and pain that I may face on this earth. I know that nothing can separate me from You and from Your love.
