Scripture Reading: II Corinthians 5:11-21

“All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to Himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.” (II Corinthians 5:18)

This verse begins with these words — “All this is from God.” Salvation is completely the work of God through Jesus Christ. We have nothing to add to what Jesus has done for us. Our salvation is gift from God. He makes us new creations in Christ — “”Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (v. 17). Now that we have become new creations in Christ, God has a ministry for us to accomplish.

Every Christian is called to ministry — not just those in professional ministry. God has given each of us the ministry of reconciliation. We are His ministers who are to share the love and grace of Jesus Christ with others. God has forgiven us of all our sins. Through the work of Jesus, we have been reconciled to God — “That is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation” (v. 19). God did the work through Jesus and now He has entrusted to us the message of reconciliation.

At one time we were enemies with God — “For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by His life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation” (Romans 5:10,11). Once we were separated from God; but now in Christ we have become a part of His family.

Jesus Christ made our reconciliation with God possible. Because of His sacrificial work on our behalf, we are now in a right relationship with God. As new creations who have been reconciled, we now have been called to the ministry of reconciliation. We are to be Christ’s witnesses (Acts 1:8). We are to tell others of the glorious gospel of our Savior. We must recognize the lost state of those who do not believe in Jesus. They desperately need salvation. They are headed for a Christ-less eternity. God has chosen us to be His ministers who are responsible to share our faith with them.

The message is simple and clear — “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). We are God’s ministers of reconciliation who are to share the word of the gospel to others — “So faith comes through hearing and hearing through the word of Christ” (Romans 10:17).

Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that my salvation is fully a gift from You. You have done everything necessary for me to have eternal life. You have reconciled me to God and You have given me the ministry of reconciliation. Enable me to be bold in my witness and faithful in my service to You. Put someone before me today that I can share the message of reconciliation with. Thank you for all You have done for me.
