DELIVERANCE AND REDEMPTION

Psalm 34:19-22

“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all…The Lord redeems the life of His servants; none of those who take refuge in Him will be condemned.” (Psalm 34:19,22)

Most of us can relate to these words — “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” As I look back over the years of my life, I have had to face many afflictions. I have suffered pain and sorrow, disappointments and despair, suffering and the deaths of loved ones. We should not be surprised by these things, for our Lord Jesus said — “In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33b).

While I have experienced many afflictions, I have also seen God’s hand of deliverance at work. He has always been with me during my times of trouble. I have often claimed Isaiah 41:10 — “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you by My righteous right hand.” I have been in the palm of His hand in the midst of affliction and experienced His presence, strength, help and deliverance.

We must not forget how God can call us righteous — “The Lord redeems the life of His servants; none of those who take refuge in Him will be condemned.” We are righteous in God’s eyes because we have been redeemed by Him. He paid a huge price to do this — the precious blood of His Son. Because of this, we will never be condemned. Remember these words from Romans 8:1 — “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

God has redeemed us and made us His children. While we will face many afflictions, we can be assured that the Lord will deliver us from them.

Lord Jesus, You paid the price to redeem me from my bondage to sin and Satan. I know that I will never be condemned. You have said that in this world I will face tribulation, but I do not have to fear for You have overcome the world. Thank You for all You have done for me. Thank you that You are with me and that you will strengthen and help me. I know I am being upheld by your righteous right hand.
