THE FAITHFULNESS OF GOD

Scripture Reading: Psalm 33:4,5

“For the word of the Lord is upright, and all His work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.” (Psalm 33:4,5)

Look at the attributes of God found in these verses: faithfulness, righteousness, justice, and love. Remember Psalm 33 is a hymn of praise that points to the nature and character of God. I want to concentrate on one of these attributes — the faithfulness of God. What comforting words these are — “All His work is done in faithfulness.” God is a faithful God. He will never let us down — “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. His mercies never come to an end, they are new every morning; GREAT IS YOUR FAITHFULNESS” (Lamentations 3:22,23).

These words from Lamentations were written while God’s people were in captivity. The city of Jerusalem had been destroyed and a great host of people had been taken into captivity in Babylon. Yet, in the midst of a national crisis, Jeremiah knew that God was faithful. He knew that He could trust God no matter what. The same is true for us. Even in the midst of this worldwide pandemic that we are experiencing, we can trust God!

When we are not faithful to God, He remains faithful to us — “If we are faithless, He remains faithful — for He cannot deny Himself” (II Timothy 2:13). Faithfulness is part of God’s character; it is one of His eternal attributes. God is faithful, and He will always be faithful — “All his work is one in faithfulness.” This means that everything God does is done out of the essential faithfulness of His nature and character.

We can trust what God tells us — “For the word of the Lord is upright.” We can believe all God has said to us because God is faithful — “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is FAITHFUL” (Hebrews 10:23).

We can rest in the absolute faithfulness of God. Though there may be things we do not understand or like, we can trust God, for “all His work is done is faithfulness.”

Faithful God, thank You for remaining faithful, even when I am unfaithful to You. I know that You will never let me down. I can always count on You because You are faithful in everything You do. You demonstrated Your faithfulness when You sent Jesus to accomplish salvation for me. I know that You will always be faithful to Your promises, for You who promised is faithful!
