GLAD HEARTS

Scripture Reading: Psalm 33:20-22

“Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in Him, because we trust in His holy name. Let Your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you.” (Psalm 33:20-22)

We come to the end of Psalm 33. Throughout the Psalm, we are called to consider the nature and character of God. The Psalm begins with these words — “Praise befits the upright” (v. 1). Throughout the Psalm we are reminded how great God is. We have looked at God’s faithfulness, His power, His perfect will, His sovereignty, and His steadfast love. When we consider these things, our hearts should be filled with gladness.

As we fully trust in our God and Savior, we can wait on the Lord. We can rest in the fact that He will deliver us from our troubles and He will guide us into His perfect will. Sometimes, He makes us wait on His timing, which is always good and right. Because we trust Him, we can wait on Him.

The Lord is our help. He comes to our aid in times of trouble. He helps us in times of weakness and pain. We are never alone, for our Helper is always with us. He will help us endure and He will come alongside of us to uphold us.

The Lord is our shield. He will defend us from the evil one. He will protect us when we face spiritual battles. He will fight for us and ultimately give us victory.

We can have glad hearts when we put our trust in our Savior. And we can always be assured that His steadfast love will be with us all the days of our lives.

My God and Savior, my heart finds great gladness in You. When I consider Your faithfulness, Your power, Your wisdom, You sovereignty and Your steadfast love, I find great joy. My soul waits for You, for You are my help and my shield. I put my trust in Your holy name.
