Scripture Reading: Daniel 2:24-30
“Daniel answered the king and said, ‘No wise men, enchanters, magicians, or astrologers can show to the king the mystery that the king has asked, but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days.” (Daniel 2:27,28)
God revealed Nebuchadnezzar’s dream and its interpretation to Daniel. Daniel was given an audience with the most powerful person on earth at that time. This was an opportunity of a life time for Daniel. Here was a young man who had been taken captive appearing before this powerful king who had the ability to do anything he wanted to do with his subjects. Daniel could have used this occasion to benefit himself. He could have taken credit for understanding the king’s vision, but he did not do it. Instead he gave credit to God — “There is a God in heaven…”
We all face the temptation to bring honor to ourselves. We want attention and admiration from others. But we must be careful to honor God first. We need to give credit to whom credit is due. When we are successful, we must realize where the success came from — “Beware lest you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’ You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may confirm His covenant that He swore to your fathers as it is this day” (Deuteronomy 8:17,18).
Let’s be thankful to God for all the successes we have had. We must always remember — “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shade due to change” (James 1:17).
Lord God, You are the giver of every good and perfect gift. I know that You have made the successes in my life possible. Your presence, wisdom, strength and love have been with me all the days of my life. I give credit to You for any success I have enjoyed.
