A KINGDOM OF PRIESTS

Scripture Reading: Revelation 1:4-8

“To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood and made us a kingdom, priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” (Revelation 1:5b,6)

The book of Revelation was written to encourage the early Christians who were going through a period of severe persecution. As we read the book, we also should be encouraged when we face times of difficulty and trails. The message of the book is simple and clear — Jesus Christ rules and He is victorious. Because we are His children, we too are more than conquerors through Him who loves us (Romans 8:37).

What greater comfort and encouragement can be found than these words — “To Him who loves us.” We must never forget how much we are loved. When we feel down or lonely, remember these words — “To Him who loves us.” His steadfast love endures forever.

Then we read on — “To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood.” Jesus loved us enough to die for us. He humbled Himself and came into this world in human form, so that He could become the atoning sacrifice for our sins. He redeemed us by His blood and thus He freed us from all our sins.

But there is still more — “And (He) made us a kingdom, priests to His God and Father.” We do not have to be overcome by our circumstances, for by God’s grace and power, we can rule over them as the kings that we are. Jesus has given us the victory — “If God is for us who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31).

He has also made us priests. We can intercede before God on behalf of ourselves and others as any good priest would do. Jesus has given us direct access to the throne of God. He has made it possible for us to take our prayers directly to God.

Be encouraged, be of good courage because You are loved by the King of kings. You have been freed from your sins by the blood of Jesus Christ. God has made us a kingdom of priests. “To Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me and for freeing me from all my sins. You made it possible for me to have direct access to the throne of God. Enable me to fulfill my priestly duty of interceding in prayer on behalf of others. Give me power to rule over temptations and enable me not to be overcome by the difficulties I face. To You be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
