Scripture Reading: Ephesians 6:10-20

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.” (Ephesians 6:10)

As we saw in yesterday’s post, we are in a fierce battle. Our enemies are on three fronts — the world, the flesh, and the devil. Paul is addressing the spiritual battles we face with Satan and his host in this passage. We cannot face these formidable enemies alone, for they are too powerful. We must find our strength in our omnipotent God.

We must first acknowledge our weaknesses. Jesus said, “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; FOR APART FROM ME YOU CAN DO NOTHING” (John 15:5. When we are not abiding in Christ, we are most vulnerable and extremely weak.

On the other hand, when we are in close fellowship with the Lord, we can do whatever He enables us to do — “I can do ALL THINGS through Him who STRENGTHENS me” (Philippians 4:13). Therefore, we must be strong in the Lord. He is the source of our strength. We must recognize His strength and power. He alone is omnipotent. Then we must trust Him fully to strengthen us. We must rely upon Him as we engage in spiritual warfare. He will grant us strength and He will provide the armor we ned for the battle.

David clearly understood that he needed the strength of the Lord for the battles he was facing — “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who will stumble and fall. Though an army encamp against me, my heart will not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident” (Psalm 27:1-3).

We have nothing to fear when we put our trust in God and as we are abiding in Christ. Paul stated it clearly — “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31. As we prepare for the battles we will face, remember these words — “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.”

Omnipotent God, my Stronghold and Rock, I cannot fight these battles alone. Let me be strong in You and in the strength of Your might this day. Give me power to resist the devil and the temptations that he will bring to me. I am confident in You and I put my trust in You to give me what I need to win the battles that will come my way this day.
