Scripture Reading: Psalm 18:25-36

“You, O Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. With Your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.” (Psalm 18:28,29)

We can have absolute confidence that God will provide all we need to face life on this earth. He keeps our lamps burning as He sheds His light upon us. He turns our darkness into light. He will lead us in the way He has prepared for us, and He will give us strength to face the challenges and difficulties we may face. He not only defends us, He equips us to be victorious!

“For who is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God? It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect” (vs. 31.32). The Lord is our rock. We are secure in Him — “He makes my feel like the feet of a deer: He makes me stand on the heights” (v. 33).

David most likely had in mind a species of mountain goats that are found in certain parts of Israel. I have seen the ibex at En-Gedi, which is an oasis near the Dead Sea. Tall, rocky, steep cliffs surround the area. The ibex climb the steep rocks and jump from one place to another along the rocky cliffs. They are totally secure on the heights. So are we when we put our trust in our Rock. He makes us secure and He arms us with strength to face our foes.

“He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You give me Your shield of victory, and Your right hand sustains me; You stoop down to make me great. You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn” (vs. 34-36). God equips us to fight the battles we may face. His right hand sustains us when we are weary and weak.

We have no reason to fear. God will provide for us: His light to guide us; His power to strengthen us; His protection to shield us against our foes; everything we need!

Lord God, You are my rock. You sustain me, defend me, strengthen me, equip me, and protect me. Thank You for providing everything I need to face life on this earth. Thank You for the ultimate gift of salvation through Your Son Jesus Christ.
