Scripture Reading: Psalm 34:8-10
“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him.” (Psalm 34:8)
God is perfectly good in every way. His goodness is what brings us blessings and peace. The Psalmist invites us to engage in a relationship with God. When we do, we will taste His goodness and our appetites will be stirred to want more and more of Him — “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good” (I Peter 2:2,3).
We must recognize how needy we are for the Lord’s goodness. When we do, we will crave the pure spiritual milk of His Word. Psalm 119:103 reminds us of the sweetness of God’s Word — “How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth.”
When we taste of the Lord’s goodness, we can be assured of His blessings — “Fear the Lord, you His saints, for those who fear Him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord will lack no good thing” (vs. 9,10).
The invitation is before us — “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” Open His Word and read of His goodness. Feast upon Him and your spiritual appetites will be thoroughly satisfied. God’s goodness endures forever. Taste the sweetness of His Word and savor the blessings that come from it.
Lord God, I have tasted and seen Your goodness. You have blessed me beyond measure. Your words are sweeter than honey to my mouth. They nourish me and strengthen me. I know if I seek You I will lack nothing.
